The #Prophet's Care for People With Special Needs
It is narrated on the authority of Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that a woman, somewhat mentally defected, said, " O Messenger of Allah! I have a need that I want you to meet. He responded, "O mother of so and so, choose the way you like to walk in so that I may know your need and meet it." He walked with her in some route until she had her need fulfilled (Muslim).
This is, of course, a proof of his forbearance, humility, and patience in answering the needs of those with special needs. It, also, serves alegal proof that a ruler is obligated to care for people with special needs, socially, economically, and psychologically, and that the ruler should fulfill their needs and grant their requests.
The forms of such care include, but are not restricted to the following:
* Medication and regular check-up
* Proper education and training
* Assigning some workers to take care of them
Following this merciful Prophetic course, `Umar ibn `Abdul-`Aziz (may Allah be pleased with him) asked rulers of the provinces to send him the names of all those blind, crippled, or with a chronic illness that prevented them from establishing salah. So they sent him their names. He, in turn, ordered that every blind man should have an employee to guide and look after him, and that every two chronically ill persons — those with special needs — be attended by a servant to serve and care for them (Ibn Al-Jawzi).
The same course was taken by Umayyad caliph Al-Waleed ibn `Abdul-Malik (may Allah have mercy on him). The idea of the establishment of institutes or centers for the care of people with special needs was his. In AH 88 (707 CE), he ordered the establishment of a foundation specialized in looking after them. Doctors and servants, paid fixed stipends, were employed in this foundation. He granted a regular allowance to persons with special needs, and told them, "Do not beg people." Thereby, he made them sufficient enough to not beg others. In addition, he appointed employees to serve all those who were disabled, crippled, or blind (Ibn Kathir, At-Tabari).

Der Gesandte Allahs Sallallahu Alayhi wa Sallam sagte:
"Es gab unter den Kindern Israels drei Menschen: einen Abras*, einen Kahlköpfigen und einen Blinden, die Allah auf die Probe stellen wollte. Da sandte Er einen Engel zu ihnen, der zunächst zu dem Abras kam und fragte:
>>Was hast du am liebsten?<< Er antwortete: >>Eine schöne Farbe und eine schöne Haut; denn die Menschen meiden mich wegen meiner Unansehnlichkeit.<<
Da strich der Engel über ihn, und er wurde beschwerdefrei: ihm wurde eine schöne Farbe und eine schöne Haut gegeben. Der Engel fuhr fort und sagte: >>Welche Güter sind dir am liebsten?<<
Der Mann erwiderte: >>Die Kamele!<< ... Darauf wurde ihm eine trächtige (schwangere) Kamelstute gegeben und ihm zugleich gesagt: >>Diese möge für dich segensreich sein.<<
Danach ging der Engel zum Kahlköpfigen und sagte:
>>Was hast du an liebsten?<< Er antwortete: >>Schönes Haar, und dass das von mir weggenommen wird, was ich jetzt habe; denn die Menschen meiden mich, wegen meiner Unansehnlichkeit.<<
Da strich der Engel über ihn und er wurde beschwerdefrei: ihm wurde schönes Haar gegeben. Der Engel fuhr fort und sagte: >>Welche Güter sind dir am liebsten?<< Der Mann erwiderte: >>Die Kühe!<< Darauf wurde ihm eine trächtige Kuh gegeben und ihm sogleich gesagt: >>Diese möge für dich segensreich sein.<<
Danach ging der Engel zum Blinden und sagte: >>Was hast du am liebsten?<< Er antwortete: >>Das Allah mir mein Augenlicht zurück gibt, auf dass ich die Menschen sehen kann.<< Da strich der Engel über ihn und Allah gab ihm sein Augenlicht wieder. Der Engel fuhr fort und sagte: >>Welche Güter sind dir am liebsten?<< Der Mann erwiderte: "Die Schafe!<< Darauf wurde ihm ein trächtiges Mutterschaf gegeben.
Es geschah dann, dass diese Tiere ihre Jungen zur Welt brachten, und sich so vermehrten, dass der erste ein Tal voller Kamele, der zweite ein Tal voller Kühe und der Dritte ein Tal voller Schafe besaß. Später erschien der Engel dem Abras in dessen Bild und Gestalt von damals und sagte: >>Ich bin ein armer Mann, der auf seiner Reise von allen Hilfen abgeschnitten ist, und somit besteht keine Möglichkeit zur Erreichung des Reiseziels außer durch die Hilfe Allahs und durch deine Hilfe! Ich bitte dich im Namen Dessen, Der dir die schöne Farbe und die schöne Haut und die Güter gab, um ein Kamel, das mich auf meiner Reise zum Ziel bringt.<<
Der Mann entgegnete: >>Du stellst große Ansprüche!<<
Er (der Engel) sagte: >>Es kommt mir vor, dass ich dich kenne. Warst du nicht ein Abras, vor dessen Unansehnlichkeit sich die Menschen entfernten, und so arm, worauf Allah dir Reichtum gab?<<
Der Mann sagte: >>Das habe ich von meinen edlen Vorfahren geerbt, die wiederum von ihren edlen Vorfahren erbten.<<
Er (der Engel) sagte: >>Du hast gelogen, so wird Allah dich in den Zustabd zurückversetzen, in dem du warst.<<
Danach erschien der Engel dem Kahlköpfigen in dessen Bild und Gestalt von damals und er sagte zu ihm, wie er zum ersten gesagt hatte. Als dieser ihm die gleiche Antwort gab, sagte er zu ihm: >>Du hast gelogen, so wird Allah dich in den Zustand zurückversetzen, in dem du warst.<<
Danach erschien der Engel dem Blinden in dessen Gestalt von damals und sagte: >>Ich bin ein armer Mann, der auf seiner Reise von allen Hilfen abgeschnitten ist, und somit besteht keine Möglichkeit zur Erreichung des Reiseziels außer durch die Hilfe Allahs und durch deine Hilfe! Ich bitte dich im Namen Dessen, Der dir dein Augenlicht zurückgab, um ein Mutterschaf, das mich auf meiner Reise (mit Milch) versorgen kann.<< Der Mann sagte: >>Ich war blind und Allah gab mir mein Augenlicht zurück; und ich war arm, und Er machte mich reich. So nimm, was du willst; denn ich werde bei Allah dir nichts vorenthalten, was du um Allahs Willen nimmst.<<
Er (der Engel) sagte: >>Behalte deine Güter. Ihr wurdet ja nur auf die Probe gestellt, und Allah hat wahrlich Wohlgefallen an dir, während er Missfallen an Deinen beiden Gefährten hat.<<

*Abras ist das arabische Wort für einen Leukodermatiker. Die Krankheit (Leukodermie) stellt einen teilweisen Verlust des Hauptfarbstoff (Pigment) dar, d.h.: inmitten der normal gefärbten Haut, erscheinen helle, fast entfärbte Flecken.

Talking with a Christian Missionary on the plane... #dawah

On a 7 hour flight, Allah planned that I sit next to a Christian missionary from South Korea, so we started chatting and took the opportunity to learn about each other's work and the challenges we go through. Here is a summary of my observations and my thoughts between brackets:
1- He left his world job behind to dedicate himself to Jesus, and he seemed so sincere by making that choice (Knowing how to read facial expressions and body language is important to read people)
2- Despite preaching for many years, he did not know much about Christianity beyond the basics, but he preached from a script that he was taught, and that script was successful most of the time! (That's the importance of Daawa training!)
3- They focus on small towns, because people are more accepting. (How many years have I been saying this? We tend to focus on big cities where people have higher resistance to religion.)
4- The concept of backing up every belief by evidence from the bible doesn't exist. He mostly quotes historic Christian clergy, and when I countered those beliefs from the bible itself, he paused and got confused. (It made me feel blessed of how we learned to back everything up with evidence from Quran & Sunnah, which we take for granted)
5- He has an airline pass where he could travel for free as many times, and his cost of living is fully paid by missionary organizations (makes me wonder where are the wealthy Muslims and our airlines to cover the callers to Allah, and why there isn't a single organization doing that!).
6- He has never met someone who is knowledgeable about Islam, so he was thrilled as he has a curious mind to learn about the truth (Sometimes we refrain from giving Daawa to clergymen or religious people from other religions thinking they are the last people who want to learn about Islam. It is usually the opposite!)
Overall, he was very respectful and he cared so much about the problems of our world, that I found we agree on about 80% of things we spoke about! (declining morality, justice, atheism, poverty, modesty, etc) It is only that 20% which makes all the difference, but we can only learn by talking to each other respectfully and exchanging contrasting thoughts, so I pray that Allah guides him and other honest clergymen!
