Fact is poverty is rife. What allows people to be so poor in the first place? Why is it that many are willing due to utter desperation work in sweatshops in Pakistan, Bangladesh Indonesia or wort at #Qatar #worldCup etc? One thing for sure is that under a world dominated by Capitalistic mind-set of 'greed is good', and with instructions like local banks, WORLD BANK and the IMF, we see the exploitation of counties where the wealth remains in the hands of few elite. People are poor due to heavy taxation that in the west goes up to the 50% on income. We see that Hording of wealth is encouraged via high interest rates, we see the privatisation of land, resources like, gas, oil coal which are then sold to the common man at extortionist prices.

'Whom who ends his day with security at home, with healthy body, and with food at home has acquired his needs in this life.' Islam defined the basic need as a necessity.
Also, 'Allah breaks covenant with any group of people living in close vicinity, whereby one of them goes to bed while hungry'.
Ibn Hazim said if a person dies of Hunger in a community then people in that community should pay the blood money and be charge with his murder!!! He wrote many books on this topic. SubhanaAllah such is the attitude towards the basis needs. The economic policy of Islam is geared to ensure in the first instance that the basis needs are met. That the common man is not taxed to death, nor is it permissible for private ownership commodities as per the Hadith ' The Muslims are partners in three, water, pastures and fire.' (Ahmed, ibn Maja). Hoarding is prohibited. In fact base on the average salary in the UK, the common man would have a surplus £10,000 in his pocket.
May the day come soon when the curse of capitalism is no more...and the days of the shade of Allah (swt) are near such that all can experience the beautiful deen.
